Chokes are necessary when operating motors with lower inductivity to achieve the minimum load inductivity of the corresponding P.W.M. amplifier, to limit the rate of current increase and to smoothe the motor current.
Total inductivity of the pair of chokes and motor inductivity should be equal to the amplifier's inductivity at minimum load in order to achieve the combination's best possible efficiency.
The choke's saturation current should be approximately equal to the amplifier's pulse current, it's permanent current should be approximately equal to the amplifier's effective current.
